Attorney Steven Leibel

Steven Leibel has been practicing law since his graduation from Emory Law School in 1980. Best known for winning the highest jury verdict in Georgia history — $776 million in a wrongful death lawsuit arising from the tragic murder of the Sheriff-elect of DeKalb County, Georgia— Mr. Leibel has also been named a Super Lawyer for five consecutive years by his peers.

In 1988, Mr. Leibel began representing individuals in serious personal injury, medical malpractice, and wrongful death cases. His successes include recovering extensive damages for the  death of a high school student whose pneumonia was misdiagnosed; receiving a record recovery in a case involving a neurosurgeon who performed unnecessary back surgery, debilitating a client;  resolving the death of an unborn infant due to medical malpractice; receiving extensive damages for the family of an elderly
gentleman who died in an assisted living facility due to negligence; resolving a tractor- trailer accident which caused traumatic brain injury to a young adult.

An active member in the community, Mr. Leibel serves as a Municipal Court Judge. He is a member of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association, and the Atlanta Lawyers Club. In addition, Mr. Leibel is a graduate of both Leadership Sandy Springs and Leadership Lumpkin County, and serves as a Commission Member of The Brain & Spinal Injury Trust Fund for the State of Georgia.  He is also a member of the board of The First Citizen’s Bank of Georgia, and serves on the State Bar of Georgia Board of Governors.   Mr. Leibel is also admitted to both the Georgia and District of Columbia Bar.   He has lectured at the State Bar Association Annual Update Seminar, and is a member of NGCSU Business Advisory Counsel.

Mr. Leibel graduated from the renowned Bronx High School of Science with Merit in 1973. He received his undergraduate degree summa cum laude from Queens College of the City University of New York in 1977. He then completed Emory Law School, where he was elected President of the Emory International Law Society.   In 1986, Mr. Leibel graduated first in his class from the North Central Police Academy at West Georgia College. He has served as legal advisor to many police chiefs and sheriffs, and acted as a sheriff's deputy and police officer from 1986 to 2000. Mr. Leibel writes expert columns for the 400 Edition Magazine and the Southern Beverage Journal.

Responsibilities include: Facilitating the support of these professionals by analyzing the financial and personal data of their clients and designing cases   to meet their personal, business and or professional   needs, objectives and or goals.   When suitable Axa Products are viewed as a solution to issues uncovered in these areas.

It is necessary to constantly monitor tax and other legal developments as factual and legislative changes affect advanced markets planning .

Duties include consultation through teleconferences or in point to point meetings with representatives, their clients and their professional advisors. Preparation and   Presentation of Power Point Seminars in all of the above described areas.

Accomplishments: Assisted in the development of a marketing strategy into the Charitable Gift Giving area a multi billion dollar market. Implementation of this strategy consisted of development of seminars covering a wide range of areas from basic concepts to more technical areas in estate, business and retirement planning ,   Creating A Charitable Selling System Booklet/Manual to be used by advanced markets, brochures and discs that can be used in distribution and illustration for public use.

U.S. Dept. of Justice (1979-1986) : Trial Attorney based in Washington, D.C. Prosecuted white collar crime cases. In 1986 won the Outstanding Attorney Award from my Division the Tax Section of the Dept. of Justice.

Internal Revenue Service (1969-1972) : Estate Tax Attorney in the Miami, Florida and Sarasota, Florida Office.
